Austin01, my assessment on the movie and tech is based primarlily on conversations with the company, but also on first hand experiences with both.
First, regarding the movie: I attended the pre-preview VIP party for the movie in Santa Barbara where three distributors and a who's who of the surfing world were in attendance, followed by the screening of a sold out 2,000-seat showing of "Step Into Liquid" (a second sold out showing followed at 11 p.m.) Personally, I thought the movie was great and other shareholders who saw the film agree with that assesment. Independent of what I thought, the movie was interrupted several times with applause and cheers from the crowd; I don't remember the last time I was in a theatre where the audience broke into applause like that. Following the showings, it is my understanding the company got word from distributors that had previously seen the movie wanting to review it again. Some of these include household name companies. Also, I have heard that whether a big name company takes the film or not regional distributors have expressed an interest in exhibiting the film and going through several smaller routes remains an option for the company that could generate a nice return. On top of this, the film received excellent reviews at the No Dance Film Festival in Utah some weeks earlier and some positive leads have come from that as well. To sum it up, the movie has alot of momentum right now and it is my guess we could see a deal for the film in the near future. This is the reason I posted earlier that the company is moving forward nicely on the movie front.
Regarding the tech, two companies are testing prototypal archetypes of the technology and others have contacted the company for information regarding the tech. Cobra427 posted an excellent summary of his conversation with Brad Ketch that clearly indicated the interest on behalf of a large telco, and that company stated NVEI was ahead of any competition based on the speeds and distances announced by NVEI at the end of December. Other large companies have also contacted NVEI and await further developments from NVEI. Excitement over the tech is not lacking. With more money at hand NVEI could really move much faster in getting completed prototypes out the door and moving on to ASIC production. While there is enough funding for normal operations, more funding to establish ASIC manufacturing is required. I'm working to help get funding and personally expect this to materialize in the near future (this is my own opinion), but if we get a good movie deal done that would provide the bulk, and possibly ALL of the money required, and that happen soon anyway.
So the issue of the tech is not really an issue of the tech but an issue of wratcheting up production which means more money. Despite the environment being a tough one for raising capital I believe the funds will be secured to move much faster. The tech from a scientific point of view is where it needs to be. We need to get the ASIC's done. That will take more cash. But lots of things are in the works to bring this about. This is why I'm positive in this regard.
There are lots of great things happening behind the scenes, and while it's a shame the share price is where it's at now, it does not reflect where the company is and more importantly where it can go.
