There's a difference between labeling something as a Historic Structure and being on the list of Historic Sites. If it was the latter, your statement would be true and they couldn't easily remove it.
I believe it was slated for donation to the historical society, and was planned to be relocated to an area in Silverton that has other items or the same "vintage".
