Part of the problem is we think the world is our teenager, and our fellow mankind doesn't care for that type of control nor relationship

Actually, I think we recognize quite well which countries are still maturing and which ones are adults. But, I do understand your point and agree that the rest of world sees us in a light that we need to change.
