With all do respect, that is entirely incorrect. Media centers such as CNN and FOX were reporting that officials AT THE SUPERDOME were estimating that anywhere from 20000 to 30000 people were at the Superdome.
You are not from Louisiana, I am. And if you have never been to N.O., you won't get it. The people there HAD NO WAY TO GET OUT. The people still there are the people that rely on Public Transportation, walking, bicycles, etc. Tell me, how were they supposed to leave, huh? And what you don't understand is that it is FEDERAL FUNDING that pays for the protection system of levees and flood barriers and THAT FUNDING WAS CUT DURING THIS ADMINISTRATION IN ORDER TO PAY FOR TAX CUTS. I also blame other administrations as well. And as far as blaming Mayor Nagin and Gov. Blanco, part of the emergency drills and planning assumed THERE WOULD BE IMMEDIATE FEDERAL ASSITANCE AVAILABLE. WHERE WERE THEY? ALL THE DISASTER RELIEF MODELS TOOK THAT AS A VARIABLE IN CALCULATING RECOVERY METHODS.
And where is the NATIONAL GUARD? PROTECTING ANOTHER NATION.
Forgive me for being angry, but this whole thing has broken my heart. I still have one set of friends that we have not heard from or about so this is very close to my heart.
Don't think it is unpatriotic to assess the situation and determine that BUSH FAILED in responding to this. Not blaming the FEDS is bs. I can debate this all day, but for now this is all I have to say about it.
