Not so sure a rejection of Lorc would result in a major backlash from the masses - I suspect the majority of the public doesn't know or isn't interested in Lorc, or what happens to it. Those looking for assistance in losing those extra pounds might be disappointed, but they might also just swallow whatever the FDA gives as reasons for a rejection and continue to pray for some other pill/treatment/cure for obesity.
As for the interest in 'fixing' an overweight America by our elected and non-elected 'elite', it is more focused on lifestyle changes, etc. than other options, though a safe weight loss pill would certainly be useful. At the end of the day, the only item that really matters is approval - that's the gamble. I happen to think banking on approval represents a very good bet...either way we will know soon enough.
