Serpent-handling pastor profiled earlier in Washington Post dies from rattlesnake bite

By Julia Duin, Published: May 29

Mack Wolford, a flamboyant Pentecostal pastor from West Virginia whose serpent-handling talents were profiled last November in The Washington Post Magazine , hoped the outdoor service he had planned for Sunday at an isolated state park would be a “homecoming like the old days,” full of folks speaking in tongues, handling snakes and having a “great time.” But it was not the sort of homecoming he foresaw.

Instead, Wolford, who turned 44 the previous day, was bitten by a rattlesnake he owned for years. He died late Sunday.

Mark Randall “Mack” Wolford was known all over Appalachia as a daring man of conviction. He believed that the Bible mandates that Christians handle serpents to test their faith in God — and that, if they are bitten, they trust in God alone to heal them.

He and other adherents cited Mark 16:17-18 as the reason for their practice: “And these signs will follow those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

The son of a serpent handler who himself died in 1983 after being bitten, Wolford was trying to keep the practice alive, both in West Virginia, where it is legal, and in neighboring states where it is not. He was the kind of man reporters love: articulate, friendly and appreciative of media attention. Many serpent-handling Pentecostals retreat from journalists, but Wolford didn’t. He’d take them on snake-hunting expeditions.

There's more and it's interesting .. this man and his family were well thought of by his family, neighbors and the press ...He was different than the other 'snake handlers' ... yes he was, he was open friendly ... etc etc.. and well thought of all around ..It's just so odd that you would do something that kills your DAD and your SON ... and of course now him ... some things I don't understand and I guess I just don't have to ... ;)

I would have rather spent time with THIS man than the HATE TALKERS and that's saying a lot .. it seems this man above was actually loving and sincere .. .. ;) .. I mean it .. never read an article like that on a snake charmer ... every story I've read always makes them weird .. etc.. loners .... etc.. etc.. not this guy ..he was just like popcorn ... ;) everybody loved him ...;)

My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the
girl who saw Erick Erickson pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.

Fox “News” on the SWAT-ing of Son of Erick :

Conservative bloggers are on heightened alert following a string of so-called “SWAT-ing” incidents and are taking precautionary measures to ensure they don’t fall victim to the potentially dangerous prank as the political blogosphere prepares for a heated election season.

“SWAT-ing” refers to a hoax in which an anonymous prankster falsely reports a violent crime at an unsuspecting person’s home, prompting a police team to respond to the location believing a dangerous situation is at hand.

The illegal practice has in recent months targeted well-known conservative writers and commentators, including Erick Erickson, founder of the blog RedState.com — who claims he was eating dinner with his family in May when a SWAT team surrounded his home following such a false 911 call.

From Erick Erickson Son of Another Guy Named Erick Erickson Eyewitness News: [ http://www.redstate.com/erick/2012/05/27/swatting-the-ericksons/#postcomment ]

Last week we spent a lot of time writing about Brett Kimberlin and the incident involving blogger Patterico where someone spoofed his phone number and told 911 he had shot his wife.

Tonight, my family was sitting around the kitchen table eating dinner when sheriffs deputies pulled up in the driveway.

Someone called 911 from my address claiming there had been an accidental shooting.

It wasn’t nearly the trauma that Patterico suffered, but I guess the Erickson household is on somebody’s radar.

Luckily it was two sheriffs deputies who knew me and I had already, last week, advised the Sheriff’s Department to be on the look out for something like this.

By next week they will be reporting that Erickson has also found a horses head in his bed, his daughter’s bunny in a pot of boiling water and that somebody (cough*Brett Kimberlin*cough) dumped a bucket of pigs blood on Erickson’s head when he went up to accept a Breitbart Excellence In Journalism Award from Americans For Prosperity for his four-part series on Supreme Court goat fuckery.

Can you believe this? They're STILL at it! ..it's obvious they have no lives ... to perpetuate this stuff for as long as they have now ... is beyond insane .. all though I look at the wingnuts here and I see that same insanity... just on different subjects.. GIVE it UP! HATERS ! .......
