As an update to that, I have since found (and already posted about) a method of clonal reproduction of silkworms (that is both economic and highly efficient) that was published way back in the 1930's whereby heterozygous silkworms can be reproduced by clonal means so that all the descendents are exact genetic copies of the parent. (and the generation size is about the same, so there'd be no problem there.)

So concerns about the possible necessity for production by heterozygous worms that could not be bred from two lines of homozygous worms (due to one of them not being viable) are completely irrelevant. THAT CONCERN CLEARLY NO LONGER EXISTS.

IF such a problem SHOULD arise at any point there already exists a proven (published scientific study) that shows that an economic and reliable work around exists.
