#4019 RE: DewDiligence #4012

Dew, Re: Considering that most PC companies also don't like to depend on one supplier for their key chips, Mark Grossman, an analyst with SG Cowen Securities, doesn't expect Intel to gain much more market share in notebook processors from rivals like AMD and Transmeta.

Most PC companies already do depend on Intel as their supplier for PC processors. Dell, Gateway, and IBM are among them. In terms of AMD, I think Centrino will be the key to winning back mobile market share. Even with Barton, I don't think AMD will come close to Intel's power dissipation, and if Tom's Hardware review is any indication, actual production Centrino laptops should maintain the top spot in performance.

Now versus TMTA, I don't see Intel gaining a lot of market share. After all, TMTA very likely has <1% of the total market, so even if Intel were to win every account, it wouldn't amount to very much, IMO.

Re: Whoa! Intel's New – Slower -- Chip?

Yeah, the ANALysts are still obsessed with megaherts (who can blame them?). Fact is, Centrino laptops will have processors that "run slower" than Intel's previous mobile lines. Of course, *actual performance* will most likely be greater.
