Love the analogies... so here is one for MWWC.
It is like a hollywood disaster movie in which there are 2 scenarios.
A) The president knows of an oncoming threat, and decides not to inform the public for fear of mass hysteria. Then, when they finally do, the prophecy is fulfilled. Panic and anger come alive. The people aren't mad about the disaster though, they are mad because they were kept in the dark, and rioting erupts.
B) The president tells the public upfront in a timely manner and manages the response. In this case, people are left with time to make their own decisions. Some people leave, some people bunker down and get supplies, and friends and loved ones wish each other luck.
This appears like A to me. It doesn't even matter if the disaster ever materializes, because the damage is done leading up to it.
