#56463 RE: Missy #56461

I was fortunate enough to spend a few hours with Bob at the 05 NAMM show in L.A. in January.

I got a call from my friend Amin Bhatia (composer) who was hanging out with Mark Vail(writer/publisher/music dude). He
said "We're taking Bob Moog as far away from here as we possible can. You know the area, come get us and make food appear".

So..I jumped in the handy rental PT Cruiser and headed to the hotel. As we
headed west, I recalled that I really DIDN'T know the area as well as I thought
:).

So..after a bit, we turned north, and headed into an 'international
district'. Passing a few 'establishments' where I gather clothing was optional
for those of the female gender, Bob was heard with a slight laugh to say 'we
don't REALLY need to get food, do we?" Ahhh...chuckles all around as the four
of us pondered the options... :)

Alas...hunger bested us, and we saw a dimly lit sign in Vietnamese. Driving by,
the place was packed, so, I said "mmmm...it's full of people..let's eat there".
I really had no idea where we were :)

Well...I certianly felt the 'fish out of water' feeling as we entered the
establishment, but the friendly host did his best broken english to welcome us
(as the stunning aromas filled the air), and seated us. A few beers showed up,
and soon the menus (of course, nothing in english, but a lot of pictures).

Long story very short...We laughed and joked with the waiter, pointed at
pictures on a menu, and agreed to just share whatever showed up on the table.
We all engaged Bob in all relevant topics (and some not so relevent) to the
day's NAMM events. I (as the newcomer) just soaked it all in..We dined, and
drank and dined some more.

When I was asked by Bob what impressed me the most at the show, I just smiled at
him and said 'toys are toys, Bob...getting to share an evening like this with
you and these gentlemen is worth more than any of them".

Bob didn't know me...I was just a friend of Amin and Marks. But the wise,
grandfatherly acknowledgment of my respect of him shown in his eyes and smile.
I will never forget it. And I will cherish the memory of that night.
