I agree with a lot of what you have said. I also thought the first round might have just been a test. Didn't they only do 20 eggs for the platform?

Right on the money!

The ZF GMs announced as done on Jan 19 were for Gen 2.

These 5,000 ZF GMs were done in the last two weeks.

It's possible that the first round done on or before Jan 19 was experimental to determine the best approach for the rounds just completed. It's also possible that it was done to add the major SSP to the lines of worms that were to be subsequently modified in the later rounds (KBLB may have felt that it was satisfied with the placement and activity of the major SSP as inserted in the Monster Silk worms (and that the replacement of the other two worm silk proteins with SSPs would remediate the low percentage of the major SSP in Monster Silk)).

RE: MULTIPLE speed increases!:
1)zinc fingers, vastly faster than the piggyBac
2)the platform worm: makes screening much more rapid and saves a generation
3)getting homozygous worms in the first generation (also saves a generation)
4)and now 5,000 ZF GMs in a couple of weeks! THIS IS HUNDREDS OF TIMES FASTER THAN THE PIGGYBAC!
