Hi B4B,

I am by no stretch of the imagination an expert, or even very knowledgeable on trademark law.
Perhaps someone else here is.

The following is pure opinion and speculation:

So, the way I understand it, MONSTER SILK trademark was been approved (so no one else can use it) in May 2011.
They had 6 months to actually use it on a product.
They got another 6 month extension in November 2011.

Yes.

So, if they don't actually use the trademark on an actual product by May 2012, they can file for another 6 month extension and not lose their trademark.

I am not sure how many extensions they can get, but it is likely that it will see enough use by May to be settled.
I am not sure of the requirements for "use".
It may already be considered used in trade based upon talks and contracts with potential customers.
Was Monster Silk tm. mentioned in the Textile World article?

UPDATE: Yes it Was!

Excerpts from the Textile World article:

This hybrid silk is called Monster Silk, "a beautiful product," Thompson said, that has an entirely different hue and sheen than traditional silk.
Monster Silk can be produced in commercially viable volumes, and Kraig Labs, which has signed a commercialization agreement with Notre Dame, is exploring the possibility of acquiring an end-product manufacturer working in its target market.

The above was published in an international trade magazine who's readers are KBLB's customers!
This is a widely distributed public media.
That surely seems like commercially beneficial use of the trademark to me.
My only concern is that it was not clearly designated as a trademark in the article, but "This hybrid silk is called Monster Silk"..."Thomson said" is probably sufficient.

Is the trademark actually official now, or not truly official until a product has their trademark on it? I was just wanting to be sure that no one else could take it from KBLB.

I think that the above publication is enough "commercial use" or "Use in Trade" to make it official.

i wish kblb would give it away...monster silk imo was a tremendously stupid name...unless you are going to use it to market strictly childrens products...
