TRCPA,

not sure how great of a contribution to our standard of living is actually made by the oligopolies

You some kind of commie traitor, like the founders of our country? They wrote of wan hopes for a "pitchfork rebellion" inhibiting "moneyed interests." It concerned them greatly that the country might simply have another kind of monarch. Even Eisenhower oddly provided a dire warning of the threat of monopoly power of the defense industry in his farewell address to the nation.

Innovation nearly universally arises from small entrepreneurial firms rather than from bureaucratic behemoths.

A colleague in St. Louis years ago drove his car in a parade behind some elephants. He had the misfortune of touching one of the elephants on the back leg with his bumper. The elephant promptly sat down on the hood of the car, as the elephant was trained to do.

The behemoths are far more likely to sit on new technology than introduce it without the whiplash of competition or drastic changes in the environment. And then they are as ungainly with the new stuff as elephants dancing. Innovation is the meat and potatoes of the little guys. That's all they have going for them.

Couldn't help it.

Thanks, TRCPA.

Best, Terry
