OT: gonzaga, well one of the safest will change

This next election, Randy "Duke" Cunningham's seat will change and it is considered one of the "safest" republican seats in the country.

Duke could have had the seat for life, except he's got himself into FBI and Grand Jury investigations into how a military contractor bought his Del Mar house for way above market prices, and ended up selling it for a $700,000 loss -- the only person to loooose money selling a house in Del Mar this century.

Then Duke bought a mansion in the most expensive area in SoCal (Rancho Santa Fe).

Then the military contractor started getting hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts from Duke's congressional commitee (contracts that were simply awarded, not bid).

Then the same military contractor bought the boat Duke lived on while in DC (through a finance company run by the military contractor's family), and then bought a bigger fancier boat and tied it up at Duke's slip and let him live on it for peanuts.

Then it turns out another military contractor was also "giving" Duke a lot of stuff and got a lot of biz from him.

So while the law is investigating, Duke has been silent for months -- won't meet with anyone, etc., and is now petitioning the FEC to use his re-election campaign money for his criminal defense costs. He also announced that he won't be running for re-election, and so that's why he wants to use that money for his defense.

So the man who for years has claimed that the movie, Top Gun, was really about him (delusional?) won't be returning to congress from a district that votes about 70% republican.

Of course, he'll still be able to collect his $200,000 pension from congress and take up residence on K Street....... if he stays out of jail.
