With regards to TC, I think its important to note that their focus is on reducing the amount of silicon used in the cell.
My assumption is that they started their research efforts many years ago when the price of poly was significantly higer hence their focus on reducing the amount of poly.
While the price of silicon is still a critical cost component of the cell, what has increasingly become a focus is the amount of energy needed in the CVD process, especially in countries where domestic sources of energy are not abundant making energy expensive like in Italy or India.
My understanding of TC's process is that it fundamentally relies on a heating process, whether that is the CVD process I don't know. But it is clear to me that they are not targeting the energy side of cost equation, which Natcore is focusing on with LPD passivation.
Thats my take.
