nicmar: I still track 42 high yield dividend stocks (mostly utilities, few consumer and tobacco stocks) in addition to the div stocks already have in my holdings (VZ, T, EXC, PGN, FE, WEC, GAS, POM, DUK, TEG).
AT&T and Verizon are high yields but can move down with any bad news. However, they are sitting near theis 52 week highs.
Progress Energy, Excelon, and First Energy tend to react to missing earnings or news but rebound shortly after the news is out. EXC is hovering near its 52 week lows; it is one that I would be nibbling on at these levels.
Wisconsin Energy, Integrys, Duke seem to 'hang around' their highs and seem to provide good results.
As to the 42 dividend stocks I have been tracking since October, the ONLY BAD ONES are the Limited Liability Partnerships. I have been tracking 6 of them and 2 are down substantially ($16 and $25) from their 52 week highs.
The 36 non Limited Partnership stocks have held up well considering the volitility of the market. Gas stocks have been down because of the moderate winter.
