#1292 RE: Phil(Hot Rod Chevy) #1291

phil - i'm not real sure what in the heck bob lutz is doing with GM, namely their chevrolet brand. billing himself as a real car guy he has directed chevy away from the front wheel drive and back towards good old rear wheel drive but at the same time and has all but cut out every performance based model chevrolet had.

he has brought the australian branded holden to the US but badged it as a GTO and gave it to pontiac ( i still think it should have been a chevelle ). and he's bringing out a new corvette platformed sports car but is badging it as a cadillac. after a history of not being able to sell anything other than luxury cars and their dismal attempt to bring a cadillac race car to lemans i have NO idea why they are doing that.

meanwhile over at ford mays is hitting grand slam after grand slam with the car guys by introducing the old GT40 race car as the new FordGT street version and the mustangGT concept that will be out in the fall of 2004.

about the only good thing chevy has done in the past few years was bringing out the avalanche. i bought one of the first ones around here and i can tell you it's the best multi-purpose vehicle i have ever owed. it's got the same exact interior seats and dimensions as the suburban and can haul 12 foot lumber or 4 x 8 sheet goods with the tailgate up and locked. it can tow over 7000lbs, gets about 17 mpg on the highway and can easily haul 5 adults in comfort. and since car guys are prone to enjoy an adult beverage or two you can also pack 3 cases of your beverage of choice is each built-in and lockable side tool box.

so hopefully chevy will shortly get with the program and give us chevy guys something to brag about once again.

just as a reminder. the rolex 24 is on speed channel today with coverage starting at 12:30 est.
