It has been really rainy this year in Alabama. The soft ground prevents the windrow from reaching the compost to turn the pile. If you are unfamiliar with a windrow, it is a huge piece of equipment that rides on rubber tires. Just like a car or a tractor it can sink down in the wet soil and become stuck.
The windrow has also had some mechanical problems, that I think have now been resolved. In the meantime the crew has been turning the pile as best they can with a front end loader.
