Ixse, So maybe customers are not as educated as you presume.
I don´t presume that at all. And it´s pretty obvious that IBM is doing a good job of hiding their Opteron blades from their
customers even on their own website. So even those few that will find out that they exist will never be told of the advantages. And if the OEM doesn´t push (or even does the opposite) certain solutions to their customers, they have a close to zero chance of selling - only those very educated customers that know about them and that ardently insist on them will get them - and IBM just wants to keep those on board. I´m not making this up, try it out yourself, call them and ask.
I had a chance to chat with the lead engineer of IBM´s xSeries server team a few days ago, and I have no more questions what the mission is there with x86 servers (not that there was any doubt before that). Gregg was pretty straightforward about that.
