Olympia Snowe, GOP moderate, won't seek reelection February 28, 2012 Olympia Snowe, one of the Senate's few remaining moderate Republicans, announced Tuesday that she will not seek a fourth term in 2012. The 65-year-old, who had also served in the House for eight terms, said she came to the decision in part after reflecting on the increasingly rancorous climate in Washington. "I am a fighter at heart, and I am well prepared for the electoral battle," she said in a statement. "Unfortunately, I do not realistically expect the partisanship of recent years in the Senate to change over the short term. So at this stage of my tenure in public service, I have concluded that I am not prepared to commit myself to an additional six years in the Senate."
