Jagman,

Just consider transport, one truck may haul 20 tons of coal to a plant, 10 trucks may be required to haul 20 tons of biomass to the plant (due to density).

Fellow came in to the office one day from a hunting trip and told us that a bunch from New York City must have just left after planning to camp out.

Naturally I asked him how he knew.

Along with the mess that was left, the purported city fellers tried to make a fire by chopping down an ironwood tree. That is one little skinny tree that would not only destroy a chain saw but send a beaver to a dentist.

Guess you don't have any oak furniture, Jagman. If you had ever lifted any elm, you would have thought oak was light as a feather by comparison.

It has never made much sense to me that grain crops would be utilized for energy when there is waste of all kinds that is readily available, including - ahem - palm plantation waste.

Brazil was once rolling out Chevys and Fords and Toyotas and all sorts of familiar cars that burned alcohol produced from sugar cane. The power of the Brazilian national oil company seemed more instrumental in killing the development than a renewal of availability of cheap oil according to some reports.

Whether one likes it or not, energy sources are changing now. Progress can be impeded but it cannot be stopped with increasing demand for oil and natural gas as the supplies begin to run out.

The biggest problem seems to be lack of energy between the ears.

Best, Terry
