you have to sell in TDA first, unless you are buying more shares then just buy them in etrade and let your TDA shares sit. i don't believe you can transfer a chilled stock

You can't that is why it is bad advice because now each transaction must be documented on your filings and is disclosed separately on your 1099-B,

8 - SHORT-TERM GAINS AND LOSSES - Cost basis is reported to the IRS
Report on Form 8949, Part I, with B o x A checked



Those with losses that buy back in cannot report those losses, it is terrible advice.

Do your buying/selling in an IRA. Taxes are only due when you withdrawl.
