That is always going to be a concern with any operation where the finished goods are relatively small and of high value. SNEY recognizes this as well as other security concerns. Their approach has been to capture all black sand and gold and transport this material to a secure holding/processing facility. No gold nuggets are recovered by the dredgesThis serves two purposes:

(1)labor intensive phase of recovery, the dredging, has no nugget yield eliminating theft at this stage. The phase2 processing can be closely monitored with cameras and guards for theft as this is done within a secure compound.
(2)The exact location of the most fruitful dredge results is limited to a very select few thereby minimizing squater risk.
