i've given a lot of thought to how to beat them. as a day trader, they make my job harder, simply because their intraday movements are often counter-intuitive, and the price action tends to rip carefully placed stops. i am seriously leaning in the direction of collaborating with a programmer to build my own box.
with this said, i'm getting a better defense going, and profiting as a result. swing trading in stocks that have their own rhythm, rather than being swayed much by the general trends.
