#137875 RE: vinmantoo #137873

We have a thousand years of documentation on just what happens when you allow single minded people to take charge. You are correct, it very much matters.

I was doing some dd on an oil company a while back and was reading the stock's message board. Many of the off topic posts turned to the slamming of Obama (he had been in office for about 2 years). You can probably guess the geographic location(s) of most of the posters. Most agreed that Obama was an international embarrassment for the US and that GW was a much better leader.

Most of these men had probably never been any further than Mexico or Canada and they were some how experts on international opinion. I would bet most did not even own a passport.

Having traveled extensively and lived abroad for the past 10 years, I can say that while under W's reign I have never been so embarrassed to call myself American. More than once it was even dangerous. We have grown tenfold our enemies and lost the respect of many allies. We cut funding for higher education to near nothing.

Electing Obama, if nothing else, showed the world there were still Americans willing to stand up against the radical, single minded religious and corporate control. And it raised global opinion a notch or 2.

The fact that someone like Santorum can even be considered an option is terrifying enough. You don't have to look very far to find all the crazy garbage that thing has said. There is no better way to say it -it is craziness-

it matters

I won't even get started on the teapary

vinmantoo,

If there is one thing we learned, or should have learned is that without strong regulations and vigilant oversight, the urge for maximizing short term profit at the expense of everything else will predominate

You mean you are satisfied with the current oversight for financial companies like MF Global? It was both the SEC and the CME that regulated them up to two months ago. Opp's,

I guess the answer might be in having proficient regulators regulating skimpy law's versus the current situation of the keystone cops policing restrictive laws. MF Global fell under the new regs.

By the way, who signed the repeal of Glass Steagle?

The country was hemorrhaging jobs BEFORE Obama took office,

I've tried to stay quiet but I can only do it for so long....Let's just not get into this conversation. Blaming somebody else is precisely why the United States of America is in the shape it is in today...NOBODY wants to take the blame for anything they do, from political office to the household.

This President is responsible for job loss UNDER HIS WATCH, and Mr. Bush is responsible for job loss UNDER HIS WATCH.

I believe Barack Obama is the FIRST President since World War II to have a net loss in jobs during his term. Even Jimmy Carter was better. Barack Obama is also the man who takes the blame for getting the USA downgraded from a AAA rating for the first time...unless his name is Bush.

And don't get me wrong, Bush was a good person but I think he did a pathetic job. Granted he had some tough stuff thrown his way almost immediately (Sept. 11). No excuses though for him as there are none for the current President.

I have been a registered Republican for a long time, but what the Republican candidates stand for now is disgraceful and often childish in its simplicity. I voted for the 2nd Bush, once. If one looks over his record, he is one of the worst presidents overall that we have had.

Sounds like a decent way to sound "middle of the road" to me.
