emit ...

"IMO the ARM they use is applicapble"

For some reason I used to associate ARM processors just with cell phone applications, but I found out that this wasn`l necessarily the case ...

"PortalPlayer's SuperIntegration system-on-chip (SoC) controllers, based on the ARM7TDMI processor core, provide a programmable and upgradeable solution for digital audio playback and recording applications, with the performance headroom needed to accommodate the evolving requirements of the digital audio entertainment market."

Here`s a bit of information you might find interesting going back to 6-5-00 when they first introduced their "Tango" audio platform ...

"Since standards and technologies are very fluid, particularly related to security and digital rights management, the platform is designed to be upgradable via downloads of new firmware. This allows both feature enhancements and security system modifications, preventing the end user's purchase from quickly becoming outdated."

It sure seems like they have all the bases covered with this SOC platform of their`s. It`s no wonder they carved out such a large hunk of the Jukebox market ... at least that`s my understanding of the situation per R.P.

Also, it looks like Cisco is getting in to the act, if they`re not already involved ...

"Cirrus' award-winning products include:

-- The EP7312-90 Processor: one of the world's fastest ARM-720T embedded microprocessors, which enables manufacturers to inexpensively develop portable and line-powered music players that can record MP3 content while playing. The EP7312-90 paves the way for new categories of digital entertainment devices, such as portable MP3 players that record without the need for a computer, as well as compressed audio jukeboxes that inexpensively encode data without a PC."

Record and play at the same time ... isn`t this something new here ?? I suspect that this particular ARM processor would be in high demand for next generation DAP`s, but I really don`t know enough about this tech stuff to even suggest that we might want to use it ... guess I`d better just leave it here.

Anyway, it would be great to find out that e.Digital is involved in the cell phone market, but as I stated before, I`m not too optimistic at this point.

P.S. See Tinroad`s post regarding his find on PortalPlayer and cell phones ...
