09:24 AM EST, 02/13/2012 (MidnightTrader) -- Microsoft (MSFT:$30.38,00$0.085,00.28%) and General Electric's (GE:$19.07,00$0.195,01.03%) GE Healthcare today provided new details on their planned 50-50 joint venture, which will be named Caradigm and will be launched in the first half of 2012.
Caradigm will focus on developing and marketing an open, interoperable technology platform and collaborative clinical applications that will enable better population health management.
The companies have named Michael Simpson as Caradigm's CEO. Dr. Brandon Savage, currently chief medical officer of GE Healthcare IT, will also serve Caradigm in the same position; Neal Singh was appointed as its chief technology officer; and Nigel Mason, currently director of GE Healthcare Commercial Centre of Excellence, will serve as Caradigm's chief operating officer.
Additionally, Caradigm's future product capabilities will be demonstrated at the healthcare IT trade show HIMSS12, in the latter part of January.
MSFT shares are up 0.54% to $30.66 while GE shares are up 0.82% to $19.03 in pre-market trading.
