RENOWNED SPECIALIST AT DISCOVERING 'BLIND' DEPOSITS UNDER THICK OVERBURDEN COVER-STUART A. AVERILL JOINS RAINY RIVER'S BOARD

Rainy River Resources Ltd., as part of the company's mandate to put together one the strongest mineral exploration teams in the mining industry, has advised that Stuart (Stu) A. Averill, the founder and owner of Overburden Drilling Management Ltd. (ODM), a 30-employee heavy mineral laboratory and exploration service company, has agreed to join Rainy River's board as a director, effective immediately.

ODM's specialties include applying heavy mineral processing, drilling, sampling and indicator mineral techniques for successfully exploring diverse regions covered by transported overburden. Since 1974, Mr. Averill and his staff played critical roles in the discoveries of the Collins Bay B uranium mine, Saskatchewan, the Casa Berardi gold mine, Quebec and the No. 17 and No. 433 gold zones on the company's Rainy River project located in the Kenora mining division, Ontario. In 1997, Mr. Averill was credited for breaking the Bre-X case for the Globe and Mail by proving that the gold grains reported to be from core were unnatural. Between 1996 and 2002, Mr. Averill served on the board of Nuinsco Resources Ltd. as a director and a member of the audit committee. In recognition for Mr. Averill's outstanding contribution to the mining industry the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and its members awarded him the Distinguished Service award in 2003.

Recognized globally for his unique expertise in successfully tracing heavy indicator minerals to their sources under thick layers of transported overburden, Mr. Averill has authored numerous papers and given several workshop presentations on this subject, including specialized papers on gold grains and kimberlite and base metal indicators. He is an active member of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland, the Association of Applied Geochemists, Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and an active, continuous member of the Prospectors Developers Association of Canada for over 30 years. ODM's client list includes virtually all of the majors exploring in the mining industry around the world.

Discovers the No. 17 and No. 433 Blind gold deposits

Between 1994 and 1997, Nuinsco Resources engaged ODM's services to drill close to 600 widely spaced reverse circulation drill holes covering 12 townships on the poorly exposed Rainy River greenstone belt. This resulted in the discovery of possibly the largest gold-in-till anomaly ever recorded in the Archean. An exceptional dispersal train of anomalous gold measuring 25 kilometres long and up to eight kilometres wide was identified by ODM. Subsequent core drilling by Nuinsco over a small portion of the dispersal train led to the discoveries of two blind gold deposits, the No. 17 and the No. 433.

Rainy River Resources recently purchased a 100-per-cent interest in this outstanding gold project and has plans to explore this exceptional gold-in-till anomaly as a caldera-associated volcanogenic rather than shear-hosted gold environment.
