AZN axes 7,300 jobs, forecasts “challenging” 2012:

So this is probably another area where I'm a little thick, but isn't this yet again another example of how publicly traded companies give into market pressure and manage the share price instead of the business?

They're laying off 7300 jobs and buying back 4 billion in stock. How is that anything other than an attempt to manage the share price?

This is probably another area where I'm a little thick, but I feel that being publicly traded is having a negative impact on how the executives manage certain businesses.
