RE: .mobi: it seems to me that one of the fundamental things that will separate neom from the rest of the crowd is the achievement of ubiquitous commonalty. users are not keen on having to utilize different systems and then, once becoming comfortably familiar with that system, having to learn another. violates the kiss rule. a verbal key word that is easy to remember seems to me to be the the most expedient solution when backed up by a stored user list that can be accessed by a scroll button or one or two keys. just a thot. pick

Picksit: To better understand the reasoning behind the introduction of the .mobi extension just ask yourself...what's the reason for the other varieties of extensions: .com, .org, .net etc.?

The .mobi extention has nothing to do w/ keywords directly. That's the WordRegistry.

IMO, the .mobi extension would allow those keywords though to be able to have more than one "response" from the WordRegistry servers...either a standard PC protocol configuration or WAP website would be "called up". I'm sure the "switch" will be able to determine if the Word "request" came from a landline internet connection or from a mobile internet connection and direct accordingly.

It also provides a structure to create better standardization methods.

picksit - I was thinking mobile browsers would just be set to default to the .mobi extension. So from your blackberry browser if you typed in amazon it would default to amazon.mobi. If you still wanted to go to the normally formatted page you could type amazon.com. The issue then would be what about country extensions...like amazon.mobi.ca. But maybe .mobi.ca could be set to default in your browser too. I have no idea though I don't work in the industry.
