I recall as a newbie how I used stop losses on biotech stocks. The games played there are sometimes more vicious than here in pinkyland: big drop, scoop people's shares once the SL has been triggered and pull the stock higher than before. You sell for a measly profit while the stock jumps say 20%.

Hard lessons are not easily forgotten.
