The idea of a silkworm being genetically modified to produce spider silk has a very strong impact because of the inherent power implicit in the idea. This is very similar, IMHO, to the power of the idea of the sequencing of the human genome, an idea that launched Celera Genomics from 15 to the mid 550's in just a few months.

The remarkable speed with which CRA was moving added to the effect as will KBLB's remarkable speed once it becomes readily apparent. Which it will be, IMHO, when this news is followed shortly by the results of round 2 of the ZF GMs and then round 3. When round 3 comes out the entire biotech community is going to be taking a VERY good look (and SGMO and SIAL will benefit enormously from that).

For the layman who has problems understanding this science how about a video demonstration. Presuming it is impractical to construct a web to capture a 747 in flight how about something heavy, like a horse for example, suspended from the minimum silk required?
