Brokers have ways of clearing out dead stock from your account. I've never needed it, but ask your broker about it.

but how do you sell something that does not have have a bid/ask?

Since 940,000 of those 1.8 million were mine, I can tell you exactly how I got rid of those shares. I filled out a worthless securities form, submitted it to Scottrade and they cleared them from my account.
