Sommy
OK I just listened to the radio show and now know what you are talking about. We have found coins and iron spikes that border the iron ship. The spikes we found in that direction are bigger than the ones we find back towards the sand lake. Just thinking if you hypothetically dropped a wooden ship from a few hundred feet high. I would think that the smaller items would be on the outskirts of the impact area followed by the bigger items towards the center of the impact. So if we just used the spikes and with that theory you could assume that the ships main center would be closer to the biggest spikes. That would be nice if we found any, even just one ballast stone in that direction but nothing.
We all have given a lot of thought into the theory that our shipwreck laid up under the iron wreck. I want to try and post a video somehow of that iron wreck. Its huge and covers a big area underwater. It could easily blanket an area the size of a small wooden shipwreck.
There is a fisherman in Rio San Juan that has vast amounts of knowledge of shipwreck locations. I am hoping one day to hire this guy. Very soft spoken and seems to be a stand-up person. He sat down with our Archeologist and told of his story when they were salvaging brass and copper from the iron ship. He said he can show us where he seen timbers and pottery shards jutting out from under the ship. This is real exciting. We have been stumped in finding anything conclusive on a direction from which way this wooden ship entered this area. It would be a huge undertaking but we do have the equipment to remove most of the iron ship. Maybe because the ballast stones are round they could have traveled across the rocks to find their home in the sand lake. This will be the first thing we will investigate after returning to the site.
