#7903 RE: emergingmarketinvestor #7902

People here have a right to talk about the macro-environment and its affect on a company.

I do have concerns about US policy toward China if the economy continues to deteriorate; but I think we are too wedded at this point to draw swords, at least I hope so. The other concern is about internal politics in China. The gov. can make or break cos., and I think that is why SIAF introduces foreign investors to Chinese officialdom when they visit, to show that relations are good. Since SIAF is benefiting local farmers I see no reason that should change.

In regard to ToTall's generational bear market comments, that could be some years off. We are currently in an economic maintenance mode, it seems, and whether that lasts months or years, I don't know. But certainly it will be followed immediately not by a depression but by inflation, and inflation is good for the stock market, generally speaking. I suspect a real bear market with a credit contraction would only happen in the aftermath of inflation, and by that time (in a few yrs.) SIAF could be earning $5/sh. with a .50 dividend. Even then SIAF, with its low cost production, will be a survivor and could be presented with many opportunities as competitors fall away.

No one can fully anticipate the future, but no future is so black that many, many individual cos. aren't going to do very well in spite of it. To my mind its foolish when you have the opportunity to increase your bet 100x to not put at least a few chips down.
