In general I respect your opinion and agree with you, but, Cook County is not your normal movie.
* It has already been shopped around in theaters.
* Despite great reviews it did not gain any traction in the theaters.
* It has been out for a while: there is nothing time critical about this release except for the awards qualifying run.
* It does look like a movie that FOX could redistribute successfully, today.
* Advertising an award nominee is utterly different than a slow rollout.
I'm just not convinced Cook County has much hope of a wide release without an awards nomination and world wide attention. I don't see that a small observation period before deciding to pour a serious pile of cash into wide promotions is "silly". If TDGI has learned anything I hope it is "Don't go all in 'till the river".
