For dozens of years pundits said the car would not be accepted.. mostly pundits who rode on horses and wagons.
For dozens of years pundits said people wouldn't fly in airplanes.
For many years pundits said nobody had a use for a personal computer... heck even Bill Gates own mother said it (or so the legend goes).
Etc, etc.
Trial and error.
And I am not so sure that the KDS won't work for all those items you mentioned eventually.
