I don't really think the court has to approve it or be involved in most cases, but in this case they are required to provide proof of an agreement or the judge dismisses the court case. It is technically a legally binding contract and has all the rights that any such contract would allow. The only problem in this specific instance is the court is involved in the matter. So it is a legally binding contract, but if they don't adhere to the court requirements the case will be dismissed and calypso will have no ability to pursue it further, if the need were to arise. While that may not be important it does clean up the situation by doing what the court says. I doubt it would invalidate the agreement if they didn't submit it to the court. This is just my opinion.
