Some broker, likely more than one, created air shares to sell into the demand..these got traded around, and likely many brokers simply bought the 'book entries' that were out there, for their clients. I imagine most, like my broker, really didn't know they were doing was bogus, or didn't care. Irony is, had they been more diligent at the time, there would have been no market in BCIT to speak of. Question becomes, which broker(s) created the bogus book entries to begin with? Did they all do it?
You know it really is a Ponzi/musical chairs hybrid when you think about it. The only chairs there ever were, were taken away by the SEC years ago. There are no chairs...and the music is about to stop.
