A Vancouver startup is assessing its next move after finding “striking” similarities between its predictive text software and features Google is using in its new instant search product. WordLogic Corp. (OTCBB:WLGC) offers what it says is a “high-speed predictive search technology that is patent-protected and a game-changer that will disrupt the market dynamics of high-speed universal search."

According to Google, Google Instant can save two to five seconds per search.

Frank Evanshen, WordLogic’s CEO said in a release: “While we have no comment on the specific features of Google Instant, we are aware that their technology product offering is similar to what WordLogic offers, and we are leaving our options open.
“We believe that WordLogic technology is not only comparable to Google Instant, but has greater depth and versatility.”

In an interview last week, Oliver Evanshen, who does investor relations for WordLogic, said it presented its product to Google about nine months ago to demonstrate how its predictive text software could speed up Google’s search engine. “They appeared not to be interested and then, lo and behold, they come out with this new product.”

He said WordLogic’s patents are very detailed and go back to 2007. The company has made public claims related to the technology since 1999.

“It’s not going to be a quick read-through to figure out where we stand and where [Google is] in infringing on that particular space,” said Oliver Evanshen. “For me to definitely say what were going to do with this – it’s just too early to say.”

WordLogic has little revenue to date, but Oliver Evanshen said it has customers with physical and learning disabilities using its software to make typing faster and easier.
