Now, you didn't know at the time that Itanium wouldn't take a single digit cpu sales away from mid to high end Xeon market, did you?

I know where Intel thinks IPF takes sales away from and
last year it was about 20% Xeon and 80% RISC. For the
most part every IPF machine sold running Windows is a
lost Xeon sales. However given the large overall growth
in the Windows server market both Xeon and IPF/Windows
sales continue to grow.
I have for a couple of years now hoped for even more balance though.
And you are a more objective judge of what is balanced
than me? LOL, whatever. That reminds me of the survey
that showed about 80% of drivers think they have above
average driving ability.
