The MM's who are "first" on the bid and ask are now supposed to show the exact amount of shares they are holding. It's required by the SEC. That said, I still don't think it always happens. On the other hand, I've seen folks post 5k shares. Remember, there are many investors out there who get to trade for free. And everyone always has an agenda as to what they want the share price to "do". Good luck, hope this helps.
