I respectfully disagree. I think appointing a real auditor is the first step toward getting investors to believe your numbers. Yeah, if the auditor resigns, or doesn't agree with your filings, you've got a problem. And it may take a while. But in the long run, the ONLY thing keeping these stocks down is the belief that they're all frauds. Maybe having a top-tier auditor won't convince everyone immediately, but it will certainly help for most over the long haul.

And while it may seem to you that not doing so somehow shows strength and consistency, I believe most investors see it as a sign of the company having something to hide.
