I'm of the opinion that at the chipset level BREW specific patents are not relevant....and personally I'm not that interested in chipset royalties anyway when the big fish is the device royalties...followed by the developer application royalties and the download fees. Is BREW included in the TI deal....probably...

The decision to use BREW at the handset level will trigger the need for an additional license with Q (BREW specific).

BREW IS a barrier to entry for alternative chipset manufacturers to support if their customers wish to make BREW enabled handsets. We witnessed TI having to go through a lot of trouble to keep up with Q initiated requirements at the operator level...always keeping Nokia behind the curve. For those operators choosing Java or no BREW applications....TI and alternatives may be able to deliver support to Nokia and others faster.

In the GSM world, I really don't think we'll see much traction with BREW (kinda like GSM1X)
