The daily short sales do not have to indicate short interest. The MM uses the short sales to maintain liquidity, and to avoid carrying any sizeable inventory. They sell it short at the ask price and then buy it back at the bid price, maybe .01 margin. These numbers just provide additional insight into the day's trading activities.
