I think the reason Sprint did not use Clearwire to build their LTE (eventhough Clearwire has the capability) is because Clearwire is destined to be SOLD.

This way Sprint may get some cash from the deal and in a takeover Clearwire shareholders and officers would also benefit.

Just a guess.
