If we muse a bit.

If 1 machine running 24-7 gets you 80%, you need another running part time to get to 100%, or 2 machines running 50% of the time.

If your goal is to stay at 100% as long as possible (biggest profit margine is at 100%), you would need an installed spare to be utilized while long term maintenance was performed on one of the others.

2 more sounds like the correct number.
