Your right

How long after the close of each quarter do companies report earnings?

Publicly held companies are required to report earnings to the SEC within 45 days of the end of their first three fiscal quarters and within 90 days of the end of their fiscal year. However, most companies release their results much earlier through press releases. The majority of announcements start a couple of weeks after the end of March, June, September and December.

Wall Street analysts make estimates on future earnings on an ongoing basis and update them as often as they deem necessary. Companies themselves sometimes issue "guidance" on upcoming earnings.
