I had an online vendor of printer ink give my info to a scam outfit that had a promo on their site (which I definitely did NOT sign up for; later learned the same scammers had already caught a friend of mine though she had no idea how and charged a ticket to Switzerland for over $1300 on her card).
Had to cancel most of my cards, put a fraud alert on my credit report, change numbers on cards I use, file a police report, file a complaint with the FTC, etc. Never again! I never shopped much on the Internet anyway, but now I prefer to pay more and buy safely OFF the Net. Find I'm using more cash instead of credit cards now (pay them off each month anyway).
