I'm not an expert on this but I think the dry method your referring to has to do with how they handle the by-product/waste or tailings. They still process the placer in the same way but then dry out the tailing (Through a filter/vacuum system and run them in rows or stack them for final drying. This way the filter water is return to the pond and not as much new water is needed.
